History

Bangla pronunciation dictionary is a an extended version of Bangla pronunciation dictionary that has developed as a part of Bangla Text to Speech (Kotha) project. It is a publicly available pronouncing dictionary for Bangla, suitable for the Bangla Language Computing Research. From the begining of 2017 Cognitive Insight Limited is providing a continuous support for its improvement and further development.

To use this dictionary, simply type a word in Bangla (Unicode) in the search box that appears at the page and then click the 'Search' button. This will perform a search for the word in our lexicon database. This lexicon contains ~93K entries. Each entry has Bangla and IPA pronunciation, including syllabification. This is the first syllabified Bangla pronunciation lexicon.

We do not guarantee the accuracy of this dictionary, nor its suitability for any specific purpose. In fact, we expect a number of errors and inconsistencies to remain in the lexicon. But all entries were manually checked by linguistic experts. We intend to continually update the dictionary as we make progress in correcting them.

Inline with previous version of the dictionary we maintained the same Creative Commons License, Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License. If you make use of or redistribute this material we request that you acknowledge its origin in your descriptions.

If you want to add words to or correct words in this dictionary, please sent to us to include it in the subsequent version.

IPA Symbols:
The following table shows the IPA symbols used in pronunciation. There may have been confusion or ambiguity in IPA symbols. We used these symbols to represent the sound according to our findings, and one may consider physical entity of sound rather than its representation format.
